Liam’s Nautical Surf bedroom inspiration

Categories   Nursery + Kids Room Decor

Hello, Cakelets! Hope you had a lovely Father’s Day weekend, and spoiled your men appropriately. This week is going to be a fun one as we *finally* get to share Jillian’s sons room makeover. Inspired by living in sunny California, and her son’s love for the ocean, she choose a Nautical Surf-theme. If you follow her on Instagram you’ve seen all the amazing behind-the-scenes peeks she’s been sharing. Today let’s start by checking out where & how she gathered inspiration, as well as some of the products she chose. Then tomorrow we’ll share the full reveal and follow it up with some very rad DIY’s that just might inspire you to transform a room of your own. Shall we?

Living is Southern California you’re naturally inspired by the deep blue water, sandy beaches, sunshine, and relaxed surf culture. That inspiration is what inspired the colors for Liam’s room. We’re not from California, but somewhere deep inside us we were born to live by the water and channel our inner hippie. It makes total sense if you’ve ever caught Liam frolicking in the front yard half naked and playing in his sandbox, like we do on a daily basis. He’s settled quite comfortably into the California lifestyle.

With the vibe and color palette selected it was time to find the right pieces to complete our look. The first thing on the list was the bed. As the biggest object in his room, and the biggest change to our little guy’s life, I knew it had to be special. After spotting this yellow Jenny Lind bed from the Land of Nod, and showing it to Liam online and seeing his little face light up, I knew it was the one. Up until we actually got the bed Liam was waiting on pins and needles, saying “Mommy, is the yellow bed here yet?”. It’s amazing how they can get so fixated on one object at this stage. Thankfully the bed did not disappoint. He LOVES it! You can’t help but feel happy when you enter his room (can’t wait for you to see it!).

OK, so let’s talk about all of these fun accent pieces! I wanted to choose items with a hint of nautical, whimsy, and boho, while also maintaining a modern feel. I looked everywhere on the web for cool products- EtsyeBay, and Target, to new sites like Society 6. They seriously have such an amazing range of affordable prints, that in my mind, really helped to complete the look. Once I found the right items I arranged them together on a page (how you see above). This way I could see how well every piece worked together and not waste too much time purchasing and returning things. P.S. It’s totally worth the time to do this if you’re planning a big room reno. This is partly why it took me about 6 months to plan + design, but we really couldn’t be happier with the results!

Can’t wait to share all the love we put into making our little guy’s room so special. I’ll see you back here tomorrow!

xo,
Jillian
