Outdoor adventure birthday party

Last year Ezra’s mama went all out for his Little Explorer 2nd birthday party, which naturally we weren’t sad about! But this year she wanted to host a party that was totally manageable, totally cute, and totally fun for everyone. Her Outdoor Adventure theme, which was nicely supported by their Montana home, just feels so full of the slowness of summer.

Bison dogs, a mud cake, and old fashioned fun (see fishing hole, swimming pool, and finger painting!) made for a pretty ideal evening on the ranch.

Little boy cutoffs forever!

What a fun way to celebrate summer and THREE!

Pia’s blue and white Italian Summer first birthday

Obsessed with the simple loveliness of Pia’s sweet 1st birthday, planned by her talented parents, Adam and Alicia of Bows and Arrows. You *might* remember little Pia’s Sip n’ See from a year ago? It was a cutie too.

This one sure does feel like summering in Italy. Makes us long for lazy days outside and easy, fresh summer meals.

The colors are just so good.

And the little cake?!

When your mama is a talented florist, you kind of win in the decor department for your first birthday.

Narnia 1st birthday

Pretending to live in the fictional realm of Narnia is one that we’re pretty sure any kid dreams of after having read the C.S. Lewis books (or seeing the movies). And as a theme for a 1st birthday party, we love it! This party did it just right. And wait until you see the birthday boy, Finn. Total doll!

How great are these floral crowns by Haute Horticulture?

Those pops, made by A Pocketful of Sweets, are the coolest.

This party definitely needed a maypole. Perfect activity for the kiddos.

Hudson’s Huck Finn Adventure 6th birthday party

There is just SO much to love about the “Adventures of Hudson’s” party (a play on The Adventures of Huck Finn), that mama, Jenny’s Cookies planned and designed for her son’s 6th birthday. The decor is perfectly suitable for a boy that loves to spend all of his days outdoors; the “Crockett Coon Camp”, scavenger hunt hike, the naked german chocolate cake with a vintage Huckleberry Finn cake topper– she thought of it all! Let’s just dive in and talk about every detail as it appears…

Don’t you love how she displayed all the sweets, using trays, tin boxes, old drawers, worn wooden boxes, and an antique kitchen scale? Things you wouldn’t necessarily think to use, but it works so perfect with the theme!

Let it be known that Jenny and her fam live on a farm, so they’ve got tons of amazing space to work with when throwing a party. For this “Swamp Slingers” activity, they “set vintage cans and bottles out on a huge tree stump in the middle of the pond, and gave the kids a bucket of marshmallows to sling.”

Oh man, those s’mores look amazing.

She thought of everything, right? That cake is crazy beautiful, and we love how those old Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn prints she found on Etsy.

My husband blazed a fun trail for the kids before the party while I compiled a nature scavenger hunt list. I had found nets at the dollar store a few months back and had tucked them away for Hudson’s party. They were perfect for our hunt. I filled the nets with a few snacks (hikers get tired!), their scavenger hunt list, and tied them up in fabric making an old fashioned nap sack.

He’s the luckiest kid around! Happy 6th, Hudson!
