Happy Wednesday, mamas! So, as far as fall parties for little girls go (or grownups too, it’s that good, kay?), this modern prairie theme is pretty darn sweet. Which is no surprise considering it comes to us from Emma Hostetter, the mama behind The Borrowed Boutique, and brand new shop Darling Loves. The Borrowed Boutique offers up the cutest kids’ clothes for rent, and Darling Loves will have a curated selection of faves to shop. It’s sure to be a hit! So while we await its grand opening, let us peruse the photos Chasey Bardach Photography captured of the aforementioned birthday party:

Emma says, We didn’t want to stick with the fully traditional “Little House on the Prairie” theme for this birthday party, so we decided to give our set up a modern twist with bright whites, modern framed photography, industrial pink chairs, a modern quilt pattern and pillows, copper accents, and a mid-century inspired dresser as the cake table. These pieces set the tone allowing us to then add in more farmhouse and rustic pieces as well.

How darling are all these cookies from Bambella Cookies and cakes from Gallery Pastry Shop?!

They created a DIY general store with Ikea crates that held art, prairie hats, and a candy bar.

Little girls love to play dress up and what better way to get into character than a rack full of modern day prairie inspired clothes! Some of our favorite brands had just the right pieces! Rylee and Cru dresses, bonnets, and socks; Blu Pony Vintage dresses; Pepe prairie boots; Miss Stevi Marie floral halos, a Pleiades Designs party dress… It was all so good! And, the girls loved it! We opened up our general store and each girl was allowed to select a dress and some accessories. Hats, floral halos, bonnets were quickly added to each outfit. Our one dapper dude at the party wore a Briar Handmade bonnet, Rylee and Cru buffalo romper, and Misha & Puff hand knit booties.

They added a little boho flair to the party with dream catchers as their craft activity, complete with wooden embroidery hoops, colored yarn and pre-cut pieces of ribbon. They even whipped up some DIY tassels for the girls to add.

Another fun activity? Good ol’ fashion sack races using burlap sacks purchased on Amazon!

For our children’s table we cut brown paper to use as placemats and then used a fun mix of fabric napkins that we tied with ribbons and tassels just to add some boho whimsy. Enamel camping cups in a pretty sage green were used for our apple cider or lemonade. Fresh flowers were a must along with prairie grass! We snagged some from our local fresh flower market to make arrangements in our farmers market basket by Olli Ella and in our apple crates. Scattered wildflowers on the table tops added to the boho vibe with a less structured feel. 

Our cozy Anthropologie quilt area ended up being a fun hang out. We had initially planned to use bales of hay and straw to create the sofa effect, but then found that allergies with some of our little ones wouldn’t allow it. The problem was solved by using a long bench from Arhaus and draping the quilt over. We threw in some pillows from West Elm and Target and our picnic was ready to begin! 

The girls also got to wear and take home handmade pinafores/aprons as favors. (Tip from Emma: Use velcro for the neck instead of ties so they can easily dress up in them on their own.)

This mermaid-themed fête Sally of Pretty Little Events shared actually comes straight from their own Orange County studio, PLEP Studio, where SoCal friends, you can officially host parties of all kinds. If it’s mermaids, it’s gotta be pastel, you know?

Sally explains, From the watercolor buttercream cake and desserts which included fondant seashell topped tarts to mermaid tail cake pop bars by Elise Cakes to the custom laser cut cake topper and balloon installation by PLEP Studio. Minted and Vintage provided the perfect vessels of mixed vintage and milk glass cake stands and compotes to hold all the treats.

Tooooo cute!

The Borrowed Boutique chose the perfect Tutu Du Monde dress with seashell appliqué, a mermaid bodice with beading and layers of girlie blush tulle. Très chic!

Paper flowers AND colorful ruffly tutus?? Think we’ve found a winner as far as girly spring party themes go. And the best part is, you can’t go overboard with a concept like this. And since Alana + the team snagged those dresses from The Borrowed Boutique, who we’ve featured here on Cakelet a few times, we included one of our fave tutu du monde numbers that are available to rent on their site. Borrowed Boutique is like a luxe kiddo version of Rent The Runway, if you haven’t heard. Can we all agree that buying formal and party wear for special events and photo shoots is a teeny bit exhausting (mostly for our wallets, obvs) when littles grow so very fast? Super neat to know you can grab the most darling pieces, that they likely wouldn’t wear after said event anyway. Not to mention, they give back with each purchase, and have boys duds too!

Happy Halloween, mamas! Are you all set for an eve out with the littles? These pink party ideas coming to us from The Borrowed Boutique and Emma Hostetter would make such a cute party theme, and totally double as some last minute Halloween ideas, if you ask us. They were inspired by the sweet children’s book Vampirina Ballerina, and are perfect if your little gal loves Halloween but wants something not-so-spooky. ‘Vampirina Ballerina meets Itsy Bitsy Spider’ was the official party theme. Too good, right?

The Itsy Bitsy Spider started as our theme song and then things took a slightly darker turn when we were introduced to Vampirina Ballerina in the book store. There was no going back! This adorable not so scary children’s story now on Disney Junior set the stage for our halloween play date. We knew just what costumes to pick since the halloween line from tutu du monde that The Borrowed Boutique rents featured bats, crows, sparrows and spiders!

Any modern party that still manages to incorporate dress up and crafting is a major win in our books.

The girls decorated felt spiders, made their own spider webs with paper plates and yarn, and colored in their spooky house coloring pads.

Can’t forget story time!

The googley eye situation may have gotten a *tad* out of control…
