A teensy tiny modern nursery in 52 sq ft + small space nursery tips
Mamas, you are so going to fall in love with this teeny tiny nursery designed by Brooke Courtney of the blog + shop walk in love. for her 2nd girl, Sunny Grace. It clocks in at just 52 sq feet (what?!?!) AND is still the cutest thing you’ll see all day. To pull it all off, she started out with just the essentials: the crib, the chair, and the rug:
Brooke says, When we bought our house nine years ago, I clearly remember the realtor saying, “it’s three bedrooms,” and then seeing the itty bitty room at the top of the stairs and laughing! For years we’ve joked that our house is 2.5 bedrooms.
When it comes to decorating smaller spaces, my main piece of advice is this: get off the internet. Ha! While there can be such value and inspiration in figuring out what you like, or what styles you gravitate towards on Pinterest (or amazing blogs like the one you’re reading right now!), it makes it nearly impossible to make decisions about what’s best for you and your small space. After gathering a few inspirational photos regarding colors and style, I can honestly say I didn’t look at any more nurseries online. It’s so easy to get caught up in the “I need a teepee in this corner and a beautiful vintage mid-century dresser that I’ll refinish into a changing table in this corner, and the entire jungle gym playset from Ikea will go in this corner,” until you remember you don’t even have room for a full-sized crib!
This smiley cloud throw pillow is a Target find, as well as the Sloth canvas pic.
And this Smiley Sunshine print is available over in Brooke’s shop as a printable.
Tiny nurseries are all about the essentials. Which for us was a crib, a changing table, and a chair. I purchased a mini-crib to save space, a smaller glider, and used the changing table we already had from big sister. And that’s basically all that’s in Sunny’s nursery, other than a few shelves on the walls, a washable rug, and some art. But we adore her little space, and it’s been more than enough for all of the middle of the night feedings, afternoon giggles, and sleepy snuggles.
Those clay rainbows you see peeking through the shelf up top are a fun little DIY Brooke shared over at walk in love.
Yep, perfect size space for this little one!
She also made sure the rug would be durable and washable, and found the perfect fit at Lorena Canals. Click the links below for direct sources from this petite space!
