It’s no secret that we love a good party around these parts. Duh! We’re always looking to get in on the action when a friend is planning one. Which is how we ended up helping our gal Audrey throw the most awesomely fun 4th birthday party for her younger son Ian.

Audrey’s vision was a Moonrise Kingdom-esque vintage boy scout theme. Which. as many of you agree, is a totally awesome one.

Full disclosure, it took 3 moms a LOT of planning and some pretty great friends in the party-planning industry to pull this off. We don’t expect any one person to be able to plan something like this on her own! But we hope you think it’s pretty inspiration all the same. Most importantly, Ian had an amazing time and we all loved being there to celebrate with him and his family.

Pine & Parcel designed the most perfect invites inspired by boy scout merit badges, and printed on thin wooden cards.

Jillian found these adorable bandanas from Winter Cabin Collection, and we knew they’d be perfect favors.

Big thanks to Teak and Lace for the amazing kid-sized rentals! Makes a party feel so much more special when the table is just your size.

We made a camp-themed dinner of chili, hot dogs, and corn bread. We served the chill in these enamelware cups of different colors, grilled the ‘dogs on the BBQ, and baked the cornbread in a cast iron skillet.

Naturally we had to have a full bar set-up. A good party is one that parents can enjoy too!

We decorated with bundles arrows from Mineral and Matter, and used some of the extra bandanas to dress up the bar.

Lauren made Ian the most perfect pennant. And as a bonus she’ll be sharing a DIY tutorial tomorrow so you can make one for your little guy too!

Of course we had to have activities for the kiddos, and when you’re attending a boy scout party, naturally you expect a merit badge upon completion of said activities. We found a vintage merit badge card on Ebay and used it for inspiration for ours. You can see it, and everything else we used to plan the party, on our Pinterest board here.

How does a mama take her older son to a party with a teeny one in tow? With an Ergo, of course! The new Marine design is so cute.

There are no shortage of babies at a kid’s party. Ever.

We made felt banners for each of the activities at the party. Archery, fishing, and insect study. Love Purl for their gorgeous wool felt. And hot glue guns for pretty much everything.

This magnetic fishing set from Janod was super fun.

And we ordered the bugs in acrylic blocks and magnifying glasses from Amazon too.

Check, check, check! All merit badges earned.

A friend of the Woollen family is an official scout master, and he was kind enough to come lead the boys in a few activities.

Audrey made little goody bags for each boy, filled with a flash light, field notebook, and a teensy compass decoration.

Tepees, pillows, and sleeping bag rolls all came from The Land of Nod, with kids party rentals from Teak and Lace, and accent props from History for Hire.

Teepees never get old for little guys. Best place to have a snack with your pals!

The Ergo is definitely the one piece of baby gear you should always keep in your trunk. Never know when you’re going to need it, even with a two year old! Kristina’s younger son was exhausted by the end of the party and pretty happy riding along in the backpack.

Loving Ace & Jig textiles for this season (or any season, really!). Jillian’s pants are from their upcoming holiday collection and Kristina’s dress is similar to one sold here.

The vintage merit badges Audrey found on Ebay were such cute cupcake toppers and cocktail stirrers. Multipurpose!

We finished off the night with a campfire and s’mores, naturally.

Our boy scout leader, Eddie, took the boys on a little “hike” through the neighborhood. It was so cute to watch them all marching along in a line. Especially when they ended up getting to play in a pretty perfect vintage station wagon.

Aw, brothers.

It was positively the most epic fourth birthday party, ever! The kids AND the parents had a fantastic time. The birthday boy most of all. Happy fourth, Ian!
