Inspiring Dad: Max Wanger

Categories   Moms + Motherhood

For Father’s Day, we thought it might be fun to depart from our Inspiring Moms series with a cameo by one of our favorite dads in our community. Max Wanger‘s work is an inspiration to so many people around the internets (and probably in real life too) and we adore him as a person and photographer. Here’s a little peek into his life as a dad and creative professional, to lead us into Le Celebration du Dads this weekend.

What was the inspiration or impetus to start your business? Taking photographs has always been one of my outlets. From an early age, I felt like I could disappear behind the lens and observe the world. I’d imagine no one else was seeing what I was seeing. I suppose that’s the beauty of photography: everyone sees the world differently.

To make quite a long story short, I had grown terribly unhappy with a day job I had had for over 8 years, so I basically left one day to pursue photography full-time. I didn’t know exactly what I was going to do or how I was going to do it. But it had to be done. I knew I had something to offer. My photography career was built somewhat out of necessity but mostly out of the need to follow my bliss.

How does your business inspire your family, or your family inspire your business? Family inspires my work because I want to do and be the best for them. They are everything to me and I want to make them proud!

How has it changed or evolved as your child/ren have grown? It’s changed my perspective on what’s truly important. I suppose that’s a cliche thing to say, but it’s true. I still work as hard, if not more, but I know at the end of the day, it’s about this little boy of mine who I love more than anything and his happiness is my happiness. And that’s what’s most important.

Are there particular places or people that you rely on for support as a creative business owner and a parent? (Besides your beautiful wife, of course.) Family. They’re my greatest support in all that I do, as a photographer and a parent. I feel so lucky to be surrounded by such a loving, supportive and caring bunch and they teach me, encourage me and inspire me always.
