Making apple cake with kids
Our reader Melanie sent over this adorable video of her 2 year old son Wolf making Yotam Ottolenghi’s olive oil apple cake “all by himself”. Which should be the mantra of the 2-4 year old set, if you ask us. We thought you’d like it, and the recipe too since baking with young children really is such a nice, cozy activity for this time of year.
Kristina tested it at home last week, and it’s delicious! Perfect for a breakfast treat on Thanksgiving or the day after.
Melanie adapted the recipe to be a bit to be more kid friendly, which we have here.
You can follow the original recipe here, though Wolf’s own version turned out just fine as you saw in the video. He left out the raisins (Kristina included them), and Melanie just folded in the recommended egg whites at the end.
And don’t worry about the final presentation in the original recipe if you’re not feeling it – cutting the cake in half and frosting it (though that’s probably delicious too). Drizzling the brown butter glaze over the top was so easy and so good.
Let us know what you think if you make it with your kids! Thanks so much for sharing, Melanie!
