Bastille Day 1st birthday for Henry & Marie
You guys. This first birthday? SOOOO good. Henry and Marie are the sweetest little pair and their mama Susan definitely deserved to throw them and herself a big beautiful party for making it through the first year with twins.
She’s a hopeless Francophile and couldn’t believe her luck when her little ones were born on Bastille Day. So perfect! Naturally she had to plan their first celebration with a French theme and she really did an amazing job. Simple, sophisticated, perfectly French. And, might we say, totally attainable if you’re inspired to plan something similar.
Look at these two! Aren’t they just edible?
Susan used Jordan’s crepe paper fringe garland tutorial for the backdrop. We can tell you from experience, it really is pretty and easy!
Love the idea of printing instagrams of baby’s first year to display at their party.
Obviously the parents deserve a tasty cocktail.
Making pinwheels is such a simple idea for a backdrop. Great effect, budget-friendly, and totally possible even if you’re not a major DIY-er.
Packs of French colored crayons!
Congratulations, all four of you! You did it. And you’re gorgeous.
Susan also has a nursery design business called Nesting, if you love her style and want it for your own nursery. And a great blog where she documents life as a mama to twins among lots of other pretty things.

So beautiful Susan! Your style shows through again and again. Paper decorations for a party is my favorite. I've used the crepe paper fringe myself, it does not disappoint for an instant wow and room transforming look! Can you share the pinwheel paper source?
Susan on Aug 21, 2013
It's such an honor to be featured...thank you ALL for the kind words!! MERCI! Nikki---the paper pinwheels were made my my amazing husband, using gold foil paper from Michaels + vintage buttons from my personal collection. ;)

What a lovely party! I love the simple take on such a fun theme. I just did a similar theme for my sister's baby shower but with more of a vintage feel. Super fun!

Susan, I'm thinking I need to make the fringe garlands for my bff's engagement party. Do you know how many garlands you got out of one roll of crepe paper? THANK YOU!
Leanne on Oct 17, 2013
Pretty speechless about this party. I LOVE it!!! Well done!

Where did you get henrys outfit? So cute!
Joan on Mar 25, 2014
I love everything about your party. I, too, am wondering how many rolls of crepe paper you used to make the "wall" of garland.

Thank you all so much for your kind comments! Henry's outfit: Zara shorts, Burberry shirt, Forage Haberdashery bow tie, Saltwaters. Regarding the crepe paper...I used approx. 5 rolls per color-each roll was split in half to make a garland. I had a very large (wide + tall) expanse.

This is SO fun! Is there any way you can tell me where they were able to find that amazing gold crepe paper that is double sided? Everywhere- including the two links provided above sell one sided. Thanks!
Jennifer on Apr 7, 2014
Actually I am wondering about the double sided as well. I just ordered some from the link that was posted and didnt even think about it being double sided. My wedding is May 10th and I plan on using this as a backdrop for the Polaroid guestbook. I LOVE this and any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I love the white scalloped garlands. Do you have a source or an easy trick for making them if they are DIY?
Jenny on Apr 9, 2015
Where did you get the initials for the cake topper...or did you make those?!? I am getting married and LOVE this!!!!
Brittany on Aug 26, 2015
Love the gold crepe paper and looking at the carte fini website, but which color did you choose on the gold? There are a few options, but I like what you went with. Seems a little more matte?
BECKY on Feb 13, 2016
I love your gold backdrop. Where did you find the gold tissue paper to cut. Also you used these for the center of the tables also didn't you?
Maggie on Feb 29, 2016
For the crepe paper garland, does one roll make one streamer? Just wondering how many to get to recreate your cute look!
