Forrest’s 1st birthday fiesta
Kristina’s littlest guy Forrest turned one at the end of June, and she threw him a super colorful birthday fiesta to celebrate. Fiesta theme is always a winner, if you ask us. Big thanks to Kristen of Chris & Kristen Photography who came to take the lovely photos.
She followed the piñata tutorial on Oh Happy Day (inspired by Lucas’s 3rd birthday!) to make that huge “F”, as well as the shapes over the taco bar.
Loads of decor came from Olvera Street in downtown LA. But if you don’t live in Southern California, you can pick up all different sized papel picado banners in our Pop-Up Shop any time.
A taco bar is always a winner. Their amazing nanny Lucy made 4 kinds of salsa, which made the tacos 100% more legit.
Those flowers were actually from West Elm, on super sale a month or so ago. If anyone is interested in buying them, leave a comment and Kristina will get in touch. She has ~50.
Birthday boy and mama! (Kristina’s dress is Matta from Shop Pretty Mommy.)
They hired a neighborhood fruit vendor to come cut fruit for everyone at the party. What little kid doesn’t like a huge bowl full of fruit? It was so delicious.
Birthday boy likes it, that’s for sure.
Forrest’s little sun hat and tank are Polarn O. Pyret, his lemon bloomers are Bobo Choses, and his moccasins are from Boumy.
Their teepee is from House Inhabit on Etsy (it’s such a good one!). Kristina used some leftover indigo from another project to dye a bunch of fabric for pillows and table cloths and miscellaneous decor.
Those pretty, custom banderitas were from Ay Mujer on Etsy. She truly makes the most beautiful papel picado pieces. Her banners, flags, and garlands are little works of art and perfect for any festive event.
For favors, Kristina picked up maracas, worry dolls, and jacob’s ladder toys downtown and tied them up with indigo scraps.
She had 5 different Spanish sayings printed onto 1″ buttons by Busy Beaver Button Co. (inspired by these from The Indigo Bunting) so that everyone at the party could get in the spirit.
How yummy does that look?! Nothing more refreshing on a hot day.
She has tons of those buttons leftover if anyone would like to have hem for their own party. Leave a comment and Kristina will get in touch.
Forrest’s cake (and every cake for each of her boys’ birthdays so far!) was this amazing carrot cake recipe that Kristina has been making for years.
Happy birthday little Forrest! You are such a joy.

Hi Kristina, love your fiesta theme and was thinking of doing a similar party for our sons first birthday party. We are even getting a taco truck to pull up in front of our house! Where did you get the buttons? I would buy some off you if you have any leftover.

Amazing verjaardagsfeestje (birthday party) decor. Simple loved the fiesta theme that you have created. I guess I am going to try some of the arrangements that you have shared over here for my sons 2nd birthday that is coming next month. Specially the flowers and the cute buttons. The flowers are too adorable and the fruit cart is tempting! The birthday boy pictures are the best of all. Thanks for sharing the wonderful memories. Glad to read your post.
